Fountain of Union

Fountain on the Liberty Square or the former Gottwald Square.
Fountain of union was built between 1979-1980. It is collective work of architects Virgil Dropp and Juraj Hlavica and sculptors Juraj Hovorka, Tibor Bártfay and Karol Lacko. Fountain symbolize friendship and peace between nations. It has the shape of an evolving linden blossom. This flower weighs 12 tons and has a 9 meters diameter. The fountain is made of stainless steel, and it is standing on a tank of 45 m diameter. Fountain of union has a 2 thousand cubic meters capacity. It is one of the largest fountains in Slovakia.
Year 2007 was the last year when the fountain still worked. After this year, poor technical condition was the reason to declared fountain as dysfunctional.
